André Mensah is a Ghanaian-Canadian director whose career spans theatre, opera, and interdisciplinary performance. Born in Accra and raised in Ottawa, he trained at the National Theatre School before completing a residency at the Barbican Centre in London. His productions are known for their precise management of theatrical time — a quality that makes him particularly suited to nineteenth-century texts, which tend to punish directors who cannot trust a pause. He has directed at the National Arts Centre, the Stratford Festival, and the Canadian Opera Company, and received the Harbinger Prize in 2023.
