Brendan Szabo is a sound designer and musician of Hungarian descent who grew up in Saskatoon and came to theatre through an early career as a touring folk musician. He studied audio engineering at MacEwan University in Edmonton before transitioning into theatrical sound design, where his musical background informs an approach to score and design that treats them as a single discipline. His work tends toward the understated and the specifically located — sound that tells you where you are before a word is spoken. He has designed for the Blyth Festival, Prairie Theatre Exchange, Theatre Calgary, and most recently for Factory Theatre's summer season.
