Claire Fontaine is a Montreal-born actor who came to Toronto after completing her training at the Ecole nationale de theatre du Canada. Fluently bilingual, she has performed in productions in both official languages and brings to her work a formal rigour rooted in the Quebecois tradition alongside an emotional directness that is entirely her own. Her English-language stage debut at Tarragon Theatre drew immediate critical attention, and she has since become a familiar presence in the Toronto theatre community. She received a Ember Award for Outstanding Performance in a Lead Role for her work in the 2023 production of How Black Mothers Say I Love You at Obsidian Theatre.
