Geoffrey Crane is a classically trained actor whose career has unfolded primarily at the Shaw Festival, where he has appeared in more than thirty productions over twenty years, and where his gift for a particular flavour of upper-class rigidity — the kind that is both genuinely ridiculous and genuinely pitiable — has been put to exceptional use. He brings all of that craft to Pavel, Walker's most overtly Shavian character: a man whose principles are impeccable and whose grip on reality is increasingly tenuous. This is his first production outside the Shaw in eleven years, and by all accounts the wait has been worthwhile.
