James Whitfield is a Winnipeg-born actor and playwright based in Toronto whose stage presence is defined by a kind of restless attentiveness — the quality of a man who is always listening slightly harder than the scene requires. He studied at the University of Manitoba before completing graduate work in playwriting at York University, and his background on both sides of the table has made him an unusually responsive collaborator. He has acted at the Manitoba Theatre Centre, Prairie Theatre Exchange, and the Citadel in Edmonton, and his play The Last Honest Man was shortlisted for the Governor General's Award in 2021.
