Kwame Asante

Kwame Asante is a set designer whose work is defined by a willingness to strip things down to their essential architecture. He studied at the Ontario College of Art and Design before completing a graduate degree in theatre design at the University of Calgary. His sets tend to create space that feels simultaneously specific and mythic, grounding plays in recognisable physical realities while leaving room for the heightened action theatre demands. Recent designs include productions for Nightwood Theatre, the Shaw Festival, and a touring production of Creeps that travelled to festivals in Glasgow and Melbourne. He has been nominated for the Harbinger Prize for Theatre and has twice received the Thornton Award for outstanding contribution to the Toronto independent theatre community.
