Owen Gallagher is an Irish-Canadian costume designer who trained at the Limerick School of Art and Design before emigrating to Canada in his late twenties. He has designed costumes for more than fifty productions across the country, developing a specialty in period work that avoids the museum-quality stiffness that can make historical drama feel hermetically sealed from the present. His costumes for Nothing Sacred split the difference between Walker's contemporary sensibility and Turgenev's 1860s Russia, landing on a visual language that is period-inflected without being period-literal. He has designed for the Stratford Festival, the Shaw Festival, and the Citadel.
