Robert Fielding has been a fixture of Ontario regional theatre for nearly three decades, building a career on roles that require a particular combination of authority and vulnerability — men who hold positions of responsibility they are not entirely equal to. He trained at the Birmingham Conservatory and spent his formative years at the Shaw Festival before moving into a broader range of work that has taken him to Neptune Theatre, the Citadel, and Canadian Stage. His Nikolai is the production's emotional centre: a man who loves his son completely and understands him barely at all.
