Sasha Korenev was born in St. Petersburg and immigrated to Canada with his family as a child, growing up in Winnipeg before moving to Toronto to train at the National Theatre School. His background gives him a particular purchase on Walker's Turgenev adaptation, in which the tensions between Russian intellectual tradition and North American pragmatism become a kind of cultural comedy. He is known for roles that require sustained intellectual intensity — characters who think visibly, whose ideas are physical. He has worked at Prairie Theatre Exchange, Theatre Passe Muraille, and the Blyth Festival.
