About this play
In a shabby motel room on the edge of the Mojave Desert, Eddie and May — lovers with a shared and tortured history — circle each other in a cycle of separation and violent reunion. Eddie claims he will stay forever; May is trying to let go. An old man sits silently in the shadows, watching, as their stories unspool and contradict each other. What emerges is a story of half-siblings who cannot stop loving each other, told through competing and unreliable memories.
An intense one-act about obsession, memory, and the destructive pull of a forbidden love.
About the Playwright
Sam Shepard (born Samuel Shepard Rogers III; November 5, 1943 – July 27, 2017) was an American playwright, actor, author, and director. He won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 1979 for Buried Child and is widely considered one of the most important voices in American theatre. His plays are marked by mythic images of the American West, family dysfunction, and the collapse of the American Dream. He wrote more than 55 plays and received the Gold Medal in Drama from the American Academy of Arts and Letters.
